Hi, Just an idea. I wonder if a closed loop from the carb mount water block to a fender well mounted heater core or tranny cooler would work with your VW pump. I've seen tranny coolers with ducting and blower fans for sale. A phenolic spacer would help insulated the carb from the manifold. A small air filter or a drivers side system would help ventilate that carb area. Think about header wrap.
