ok this has been rattling my brain for a while .

the cranks on most sixes allow for 3 different piston locations, that is as the crank rotates two pistons will in the same spot. in mine its 1&6, 2&5, 3&4.

heres the tricky bit , a distributer has 6 points of contact and in my engine spins at 1/2 the crank speed. if two pistons are coming up at the same time then that would dictate two sparks at the same time , yes?. but due to the distributer having 6 points, one cylinder will get an optimal spark, then the other will be greatly retarded.

this would result in uneven running conditions right. i have an ohc motor .
do later or special ignition systems like the ef falcon one or nissan ones do this.. much power at stake.
in theory should run two distributers .or coils ,with two going of at once

oh and does the dissy runnig at half the engine speed mean that half the cylinders wont get spark effectively wasitng fuel, and running on three in every crank cycle.

hmmmm sparked some more thoughts .... sorry for the essay :P

Are you pulling our collective leg? The two pistons are on "Diff'rent Strokes". The short guy is...

No, actually, one is TDC compression (valves closed), one is TDC exhaust open. So only one requires a spark. As for that spark being optimised, that's what a lot of development went into, first with the Bosch units from XD-on, and later the things like distributorless coil-on-plug. (Think of this as a "spark injector" if you like.)

Are we getting somewhere, now?

BTW, I know a guy whose real name is Gary Coleman. He's a GT Ford parts specialist.

Adam.

im an idiot.... i was effectively thinkin up two stroke wasnt i
any takers on a ford six two stroke

thanks addo i must look like a big nuthin

wanna 2 stoke

grab a rotor if it realy must be a six then a 20 b will do the job. and make stoopid power

theres a corolla round these parts with a 20b running 8.3 in street trim!!!!

cheers.joe.
