when my car ran low on gas yesturday i let it get lower than i normally do i usually put gas in at around a 1/4 tank but i let it go down to pretty much empty now my tank has never been completely taken out and cleaned in 40 years only drained once. anyway my car started to miss a little at idlke when it got real low i put gas in and today it still shakes at least i think a little more than it did a week ago the timing slipped a little because the bolt wasnt tight but thatr only gave marginal improvement. i thought about a vac leak at the 2bbl adapter but i didnt see any bubbles with wd40 and when i took off the small dashpot hose it ran horrible! when the car is being driven there is no hesition or stumbling so i dont think its a vac leak any suggestions it also could just be me i'm not sure the inline filter is also clean.

With all the crap in the fuel nowdays (ehtanol and such) its not uncommon to get some seperation especially in low volume stations underground tanks. If you happend to get gas when the tank was a bit on the empty side you could have got a higher amount of stuff other than gas like extra ethanol or water since ethanol likes water so much. Same thing could happen in your tank although it tends to get mixed up again from the movement.

:) If the stations tanks had enought water in it to be picked up by the pickup pipe in the storage tank, there would have had to be a BUNCH of water present.Reason, the pickup pipes in the storage tanks are usually 6" above the bottom of the tank.I worked at a friends convinence store for 13 years until he sold it,and when the pumps quit picking up the gas, there was 6 1/4" of gas left. That equaled 110 to 115 gallons.

i think it may be a a vac leak after all the gas looks prettynclean when i put the 2bbl carb on the adatper i was in a rush that night because i had tyo drive home fromn my uncles and i idnt have a good gasket the one i ended up using was a paper one from a quadrajet i just cut it in half i knew it would most likely go bad it has even started to plane apart along the edges so i'm pttuing a goood one on todayl.

i think it was a vac leak because i put it all back together this morning with a new 3/16 gasket i also bored out the adaptor because the plates didnt sit all the way inside making one barrel run much leaner than the other anyway once it was al put back together it started and ran but not well then i adjusted the one screw that used to be lean now it runs richer and smoother it also is within a turn or two of the other screw which it previosly wasnt and it runs great now my little off idle bog is also gone i think that was also the result of one being lean and the other rich.
