Bad Gasoline

I had asked a question a few days ago about my 1965 Mercury Comet vibrating more than ususal and stuttering when I would push the accellerator. I just remembered that this starting happening not long after I had put gas in the car. Could some bad gasoline be causing this?

I'm sure there are many reasons that could happen, but if there is condensation in there you can put a $1 bottle of gas line anti-freeze in the tank to clear it up.

Do a quick under hood check for loose vacuum lines or other loose parts like the carb or distributor.

I have torn apart a few too many carbs and engines due to bad gas. Most areas in the us are now using ethanol in the fuel so you have to be careful how much more crap (alcohol) you put in there. It could also be that you got a tank full of extra 'green' gas. There is a gas station chain in my area that claims they are extra green and have all the best additives to save us all, bottom line is my new cars get worse mileage with them and my old cars run like total crap, hard starting, vapor lock, rough idle... So if your last tank was a different than usual station for that car that could be the issue.

I don't think I filled up with E85. But I did buy it somewhere that I usually don't. I'll run the tank low and put more gas in and see what happens. If that dosen't fix the problem I'll try a tune up and check the Carb like someone had mentioned earlier.

Thanks!

I found the problem. It was the fuel filter. Runs like a champ now. Thanks for the advice!

now heres the question you have to ponder: did that tank of gas provide the crap that clogged the filter, or did it just happen to be at the same time?
