Bad idle in gear??

I am having problems with my 65 mustang. It has a C4 and a Jasper 200, Pony carbs autolitle 1100. When I put it in gear it misses and stalls unless I give it gas. I think it might be chove because it only does this at idle and is fine when driven past idle. Is it carb setting or distibutor? What is making my car do this? THanks.

It could be either I'd look it at the timing first just because its easier, but I'm kinda leaning towards your carb being set to lean at idle.

8) sounds to me like the idle speed is too low. it should be set with the trans in drive, not neutral.

I would also look at the idle speed. If you dont have a load o mattic you could also try manifold vac for the dizzy, that will usually smooth out the idle.

It'll screw everything else up, though

Set your idle to 700 to 800 in DRIVE. Then use a vacuum gauge attached at manifold vacuum to adjust the fuel/air mix at idle.

Screw the F/A adjuster screw all the way in until it just starts to stumble, then back it out until you get max vacuum. You may have to re-set the idle with the new f/a mixture.

Sorry, I misread. I thought he said "If you have a Load o matic," not "If you DON'T have a Load o matic."

Carry on...!
