Best head for 200

I might have a crack in my head dangit, my motor's head, lol. I cant afford an aussie head, but was wondering what the next best head would be. Be specific, year and size motor and car it came from. Let me know guys, I want the next best thing for my motor. Also, Im lookin to turbo, so keep that in mind. Right now I can get a cheap 200 head off an 82 motor. What do yall think?

78-82 head would be my 1st pick, then a 69 "M" head would be my 2nd pick!! :D :D :D

78-82 heads were all the same (200 or 250).

Awesome, were the 78-82 heads all the same... meaning, if I get on from 78 its no different than if I would have gotten one from 82? Also, I have the clifford adapter for my head, I will prolly have to get a different one for my Holley huh.... OR, how hard is it to direct mount the carb and what are the advantages of doing so????

now just to mix things up and get confusing, if you go with a 170 head, you will raise the CR some, though you'll lose some plenum volume....

I'm in agreement with Doug, as a 78 to 82 200/250 head for an upgrad on yur '66. If you haven't already you might want to reread the sticky at the top of this forum covering the differences between the 66 haed and the later ones, and how to remedy. Ditto with the gasket thickesses.

The later head will have a 1.75" carb hole as opposed to a 1.5" on your '66 head. If the bolts can be accomodated by slotting, I'd ream out the carb hole to the larger size and use it.

The E0BE heads have a smog port on the side of the log, below the carb pad that will need to be blocked. If you're lucky you might find a D7BE-AB casting that has all the good stuff, plus a flat-topped log. Flat-topped logs make milling and adapting for a direct carb mount- no adaptor, much easier.

What you'd gain in CR by using an early 170, kidney bean chamber, would be more than lost by less volume, smaller valves and less flow. This might be a good choice if economy were the goal.
