I want to get some headers for my 250 but i have heard that with some brands or maybe all headers u have to bang it to get space for the starter or other areas is this true??? Oh and i want it dual so if anyone knows of a brand that will bolt right in let me know. thanks

Check out fordsixparts.com. It's run by AzCoupe. He has application charts, and probably knows of any common fitment issues.

It's dependant on the starter motor size. Stock starters are very big. A little Tilton starter motor for the 157 flywheel should allow enough space to slip the header through, but its yet to be confirmed. A smaller starter is big bucks, but the stock starters are not that reliable, so once you've fet a couple of reco's into financing things, its good piece of mind. Still, 250 bucks is a huge amount.

This weekend, I hope to trial fit the low mount starter gearbox found on the US 250 with a set of Perry extractors, the same as the Pacemakers.

I'll give you some feedback when its done.

I have a '65 Falcon with a 250 in it. I used a Clifford split header. I had no problem installing the header as it comes apart in 2 pieces for installation. It clears the stock starter. The only modification I had to do was rotate 180 deg the ilder arm "L" shaped bracket, which meant I had to notch the frame to clear the idler arm itself. The only other clearance problem I had was solved by "massaging" the shock tower in the center near the top. Hope this helps.

Ok, on Az's application chart the differences are defined as high and low mounts, How do I tell with its considered high or low mount, and/or what years/models use which.

... Basically which headers will fit my 72Mav 250?

Looking from the drivers seat, the low mount starter is where the big hand on the clock hits 4 o'clock. The hi-mount, where the hour hand is at 2 o'clock.

From the engine bay, the low mount starter is below the pan rail. The hi-mount is above the pan rail, beside the frost plugs, very close to the cast iron header.

A 250 is lo-mount, allthe 144-170 andmost 200's generally are hi-mount.

The only issue with using the 200 headers on the 250 is if the starter is small enough to dodge the header outlet. Most cases, its tight, but if you use a #3110 two bolt starter from a 428 FE, a fairly cheap upgrade, you shouldn't have any problem.
