can any of you guys tell me what the last year ford used big block sixes in their fullsize cars was? i know it was sometime in the 70s.

1972 the last year in the full size car. 1974 last year for the 240 in the F series truck and E series van, 300 became base engine for trucks in 75. The 240 is rare like hens teeth and frogs hair in the cars from 69 on. More easily found in the 65-67/68 full size cars but still not real common.

by the last in 74 im assuming you mean either the 223 or 240 right? i know the 300 ran into the 90s. mainly what i wanted to do was put a big six in a crown victoria (ltd) or some thing similar.

In trucks (F100-250's) 64' was the last year for a 223, then they went to a 240 in 65', not quite sure when the 300 came out, late 66'?

thats cool. like i said mainly i was wantin to put the "big one" in an ltd or similar if it wasnt going to be a huge deal with mounts trannys and so on. any ideas on that?

Tell ya the truth I personally have never heard of or seen a 300 in a car, I thought they were truck motors, don't know for sure though. I think they used 250's in mustangs and granadas and used 240's in Galaxies from 65'- 70'

Any P/U-Van that had a 240 will accept a 300, no issues. The same would be true for the full size cars from 65-72. If it had/has a 240 it will take a 300 with no issues. But as I said earlier they are much more rare in the cars than in the trucks. Locating the correct mounts would be a project in itself.

The 223-262 is the older, prior design up til 64. It will not interchange easily ( not a bolt in) with the successor 240-300.

I have often thought a 65,66, or 68 (67 ugly, the 69-72 too big & heavy) custom 500 car with a built 300 would be a fun toy. But I have never done anything about it.

ROFLMAO (gets that psychotic look again) i have a welder and im not afraid to use it (insert maniacal laughter here)

although it would take some research to be sure, i believe they used the 223 for a spell in the passenger cars--unsure of years or even if they did--more research like i said.

ive always thought that ANY big body ford would be a fun toy with a big six---they have tons of bottom end and thats what a big car needs to get rollin---hmmmm2x4 clifford? weber trips? ooooo paxton type blower maybe (more maniacal laughter) i feel one of those spells comin on HAHAHAHA NOW WHAT DID I DO WITH THE SAWZALL AND WELDER?

The 223 was "the 6" for the big fords from 52-53 til 64. I owned 3 1960 full size fords with 223's in em when I was a kid in high school. (2 I drove and one for parts) I loved em, should have kept one. 223 is a great engine, but I like the 240-300 even better.

You can put any engine in any car you want to with the right tools and fabrication skills. My comments regarding the correct mounts were intended for those that want to bolt in and go.

youre right, i wasnt considering the general public that may be reading---my bad. i was mainly just havin a little fun with the blowtorch/maniacal laughter thing. i tend to get a bit gung ho and maybe a bit over the top at times.
yea i like the 300 too, and being more readily accessible, and having more speed parts available, to me it is the perfect replacement for the earlier engines. in my case i was searching for a say 79 or 80ish crown vic(LTD) to stick one in(if it was an easy fit) just for squats and giggles. i doubt it would ever really scream, but it would be a lotta fun.
