First off, are my carbs turned the wrong way? I gotta say I think I dont have it set ip properly cause with just the middle carb running till I stomp on it I have no power with just one carb. When the other two open its pretty nice. It didnt add as much power as I expected, but then again I think something isnt tuned correctly. Anyone have any suggestions? Well anyway I also added a Mallory unilite distributor, an electric fuel pump, and as you can see the offinhouser tripple weber setup. I also have a clifford 280 cam, Rhodes variable bleed lifters, dual valve springs w/titanium retaners, exhuast port devider, just to be safe the engine rotating assembly was fully balenced.

Let me know what you all think.

Just a suggestion, but I would work on a single sheet of al between the headers and intake instead of that header wrap. Those wraps will rot headers faster than anything else.

Thanks for sharing the pics, looks like you’ve put a lot of work into your setup.

Have fun, Ric.

I can only imagine how much time and effort you've put into finishing that project, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Thanks Ric, Ive had those headers and wrap on for about 5 years now, I suppose I should peal it off and that will be my excuse to buy some nice ceramic coated headers. Thanks again.

Nice job.

A couple of questions. What is your timing set at? Is that a mechanical advance Mallory? Is it giving you the right amount of total advance? "I Have been thinking about getting a Mallory. So far how do you like it"

Think of your carb set up as a three-barrel carb. The center is your primary. The outer two are our secondary. I have mine set up so that the mixture screw is pretty much shut off on the two outer carbs. I even went as far as disconnecting the accelerator pump on the back carb. I'm using old holleys. The nice thing you have with the webbers is lots of choices with jetting. If you disconnect the linkage from the outer carbs you should be able to get the car jetted and running strong with only the center carb. Then hook up the outer carbs and fine-tune them. It is a lot of trial and error. Once dialed in they work pretty good. But my next engine will have just a two-barrel Holley.

gtm1086,

That is an awsome idea on how to set my carbs, I will try that asap. Yes the Mallory is a mechanical advance, I dont know if its giving me the proper amount of advance or not. my timeing is set to 12 Deg BTDC. If I put it at 15 it runs really strong onm the top end but super weak on the bottom, so maybe im not getting enough advance from the distributor. Do you know how I can adjust this? Otherwise I love the Malloy, exspensive, but worth it. No points, maintenance free.

Sorry I don't have any experince with The Mallory. But I have been reading up on them. I guess I'm puzzled how your low speed running goes down hill when you run your advance upto 15 degrees. I find mine likes as much timing as I can give it. Currently I'm running a Dura Spark 2 unit set at 15 BTDC.

Hi,

I'm still playing around with my 3-1 bbl set up but what I did was add an Air/Fuel meter to the header. I ordered a Edelbrock A/F meter from Summit Racing. It will require that a bung be welded to an exhaust pipe; which Ii had done to the collector on the single out header. Most muffler shops can do this. I was amazed at the A/F (mostly lean) that occured with the the Carter YF carb from a '77 250 ci that I was using as the center (idle) carb. The meter was in the $100 to $150 range, and is easy to install aftert he bung is welded on. It will give the real "poop" as to what is going on with the carbs and stuff. Why guess when you can really find out.

mugsy,

Damn thats a good idea, I never thought of that. I'm gonna have one installed the summer. Thanks for the tip.
