Block to Head dowl pins???

Does anyone know if a 66 200 should have dowl pins between the cylinder block and the head and if so what the size and location of the pins are?? Just got everything back from the machine shop and he didn't have anything that would fit any of the holes in the block deck. I didn't notice any when I tore down the engine but it seems like there should be one at the front and one at the back.

8) i dont recall any dowel pins on my 170 when i pulled the head off that motor to change the head gasket. the reason V type engines have them is to prevent the head from falling off the block until you can get a bolt in to hold the head in place properly.

And when you put the head back on, get some longish 7/16 bolts, cut the heads off and use them as alignment dowels in the head bolt holes. Really helps getting everything in place.

The passenger side, front and rear bolt holes are the ones you want to use your temporary dowl pins in. The head gasket and the head has smaller clearance holes in those two locations. Alignment will be better. I also don't like all thread rod. I try to get the studs, cut off bolts with hacksawed screwdriver slots on the top to go far enough into the block. By grinding them shorter, or whatever it takes so that the shoulder contacts the gasket and not the threads, it will align the gasket up better, especially shim gaskets.
