Well, I have a '64 Fairlane that is bone stock. Just dropped in a rebuild 170 and discoved the tranny is starting to slip a bit and since it's a 2 speed auto I want to upgrade to a C4. I'm just wondering what years C4 will work and what other problems might come up.
Thanks in advance!!!!!

any C4 will work (case or pan fill). You'll need a different bell housing, tranny mount, and steering column stuff, but all very minimal.

do a search and you'll find many threads on it.

I have a C4 I may be willing to sell. It is bolted to a 200 at this time. Let me know. Oh yah it is from a 79 Zephyer.

The trans will work, but needs a different bellhousing to go behind a '64 block.

Make sure that the C4 comes with the bellhousing, torque converter, inspection plate, and output shaft. And if your present setup doesn't have a block plate between the bellhousing and block, try to get and install one during the swap.

Then there is modifying the driveshaft, rear tranny mount, tranny cooler lines, linkage, neutral safety switch wiring maybe, and hopefully the speedometer cable still fits.
