Cable throttles: How does one shorten them?

I can get a cable throttle at the local NAPA parts store for about nine dollars. The problem is that it is too long. How does one shorten a cable throttle? I know I have heard someone mention something about shortening a cable throttle on this forum before.

Thanks,

Justin

That cable was not what I needed. It was actually a choke throttle cable. I just ordered a cable throttle from Summit.

hasn't it been a pretty long time since you've been fooling around with that? how does the stang run with the 2 bbl?

I bought another Holley 2bbl carb. It is a rebuilt unit. It has a different throttle mechanism than the old Holley 2bbl that was installed. With the old carb. I had used two pieces of aluminum flatstock to fabricate an accelerator connection to the carb. That did not work very well. The best solution I see for my current problem is a cable throttle.

The Mustang runs very well when I have everything tuned properly. When there is an open stretch of highway with nobody in sight I cannot help but open up that secondary throttle valve and listen to the exhaust roar. :D I have not been able to correctly tune the new carb yet so I called my ex-girlfriend's dad who helped me tune the first 2bbl carb. He is coming over tomorrow to help me out. I only drove the Mustang once this Spring.

well i got my dual out header. now i need to start getting the stuff for my 2bbl swap
adapter
carburator
air cleaner
what else?

Heater Hose
New Fuel Line

You will probably have to re-route your heater hose, as the adapter will not accept a heater hose. I got a new hose from NAPA and ran it along the passenger side shock tower and right into the heater core. You will have to drain your radiator when changing the hoses so you might need more antifreeze if you do not reuse the stuff you drain.

If you are lucky, the accelerator adapter will be as easy as this:

I bent a new fuel line because the the fuel inlet on the carb. is pointing towards the firewall.

Are you going with an electric choke? If so, you need to buy wire, ring terminals, and a wire crimper and hook the choke to a +12v switched source. I used the stator terminal on the alternator.

nope i'm going with a manual choke, probably won't hook it up though cause here in louisiana it doesn't really get that cold.

i plan on doing something like Mustang Geezer did

Hate to interrupt, how much of a difference does the 2brl make? TheDude- I pretty much have the same set up as you 68 200, pertronix, and dual outs. How much a a difference have you notice? Top end? Low End? Etc Thanks

The 2bbl make a reasoanable difference if you have a good exhaust system already installed. There is better acceleration and definitely more top end power when I open up the secondary throttle. :)

I shortened mine usin wire cutters, that frayed it so I heated it up with a lighter and twisted it to bring it back together, lol.
