Can't get fuel through the carby?

82 250 with stock Weber ADM.
Float bowl is full of fuel. Idle solenoid opens when the key is turned to on. The fuel can be seen squirting into the carby when the throtttle is opened to prime the engine. Engine starts and runs for a few seconds then stalls from lack of fuel. If I drip fuel into the carby after it starts it will stay running.

I am not at all familiar with this carby and don't know how to adjust the idle fuel mixture. Can someone tell me where the adjustment screws are located and at how many turns open would you set them to start tuning the engine? Any other sugestions on what I might check would be appreciated.

Hiya David,
Is this a fuel problem?
What is the choke set at the moment?
Try unscrewing the fuel cutoff solenoid one turn and try again.
If this is the problem. The engine will run at fast idle and fast speeds but not idle.
The idle mixture screw should have by now been exposed.
The screw is a tiny little screw in a plastic fitting. In the housing below the cut off solenoid.
Could also try removing the screw and blowing compressed air through the idle circut.
Try some of this and get back to us.

Hi,
See if this works.

Noel,
The pics/diagrams you posted are excactly what I needed to figure out what is going on inside the carby.
I will post the pics of the carby installed today.
I most likely will not get a chance to work on it until this weekend.

Noel,
I am very grateful for a mate like you that posted the pics of the carby for me. I ended up pulling the carby apart and just checking things out. I didn't find any problems in there. I then pulled the dizzy and went through it, thinking it may have been a timing issue. Well, I still don't know what the problem was, but, when I turned the key after reinstalling the carby and dizzy it fired right up and accelerated pretty close to normal. I was happy to have this happen as I just installed a new Crow cam, dizzy gear, 2x roller timing chain and some other bits when I rebuilt the engine.
Since this is a one off conversion to mate the AOD to the 250 block I still have a bit of custom linkage to make, accelerator, shift , and kick down linkage. To make things worse the vehicle I am installing it in is a mid engine forward control van. Most people aren't familiar with the 1st generation Econoline set up and I don't know if it was ever produced for the Aussie market. It is set up like the mid 80's Toyota van, forward control with the engine sitting amidship.
As I make progress slowly but surely I will keep you posted.

Thanks dave,
Its always good to get some feedback.
I would suggest looking for loose connections on the ignition system and silly things can stop cars from starting.
I have seen photos of the econoline.
Some say strange but I like different.
Good luck with this project.
Noel
