Carb and vacuum question

My 1100 is finally running great when warmed up, but rough as a cobb when cold. She sputters, blows smoke and will not idle until warm, then she is fine. Any help appreciated.

Also, I have a terrible looking vacuum setup. My vacuum line screws into the carb and the vacuum canister. It is mostly metal with a section of rubber in the middle. While it works, it is bent like crazy and looks like something pulled out of the trash. I would like to go to a rubber line, but wonder what type of fitting I need to adapt the screw to a push on type nipple fitting on the carb and the dizzy. How are you guys doing this and how are you routing the line (in front of the valve cover, behind or over the top)?

Thanks for your help and suggestions!

Check to see if your choke is working properly, sounds like to much choke.. With the motor cold pull air cleaner, move throtal linkage and see that the choke is closing... Now it shouldn't close tightly just with in 1/16 or so... Start car The Choke should be only about 1/2 way closed at this point (it should pull open some when the motor starts) If it doesn't pull open push it open some with your finger or something and see if the idle inproves if so thats the prob..

You should be able to go to a hardware store and pick up a brass fitting that can be screwed into the holes and hook up a hose to. Heres a pic of how the stock one ran off my comet w/200.. they are bent to run around the front of the motor.
Good luck

65Shad-
I got a threaded brass nipple at the local hardware store and screwed it into the threaded vacuum port. Then I atttached vacuum hose to the nipple, but did not like the vacuum lines dangling everywhere so I secured them to the fuel line with electrical ties. Eventually I plan on bending some shiny stainless lines but for now these look pretty organized:

Good Luck!

Thanks guys. I am off to the hardware store tomorrow. BTW Tim, my choke was pretty far closed and you were right that it improved when I opened it up. Still running a bit rough, but these 1100s seem to take some tinkering to zero in on a smooth idle.
