my new carb, which I got on wednesday, burped smoke out the top when I shut it down. kinda rumbled, like a vacuum hose was off (which it wasnt) and then bleched.

what cold cause this?

I noticed my timing may be off...sometimes it pings, soemtimes it dont...

ideas?

Sounds like the beginning of a larger belch or backfire. Usually related to timing.

Hope it runs better, Ric.

Sounds like your timing is off. Are you getting spark knock as your RPMs increase? What carb do you have?

just had my old 1100 rebuilt. that was my solution for bad gas milage. Gas milage has INCREASED by a lot. Performance too. I am thinking that my timing was set on old carb...that was running too rich...so it didnt ping that much

spark knock....I have a pinging upon hard acceleration...is that spark knock...?

it only happens sometimes. I am thinking my dizzy might be worn and wobbling...will have to check that.

well, upon futher inspecction...one of my vacuum lines blew off whenit burped...let me seeif that helps with accelration & stuff

If you were running rich before and not any more, the pinging may also be caused by increased engine temp. Keep track of when you get the pinning and see if it is related to uphill on a warm day. Can you still grab your upper rad. hose after running?

Good luck, Ric.

was your choke on too much??? i have done that a few times with my manual choke then i fixed it 8)

I was thinking my new auto choke spring may be wound too tight. the first day it took a while to come off. Then it slowly is getting better

and to check it going up hills, I would have to drive 350 miles. No hills in Miami. LOL and its always a hot summer day

I will keep an eye on it...
