Carb Question...

I do not know very much about carb's i have three questions, they might sound dumb so don't beat me up to bad.

1) Is a motorcraft 2 barrel carb (thinks its a 2100 D) the same as an autolite 2100?

2) Is it feasible to run the motorcraft 2 barrel on my 200ci?

3) Can i use an autolite adaptor plate from classic inlines to mount the motorcraft?

1 for the most part yes Motorcraft is newer version of that design some have more emissions parts
2 it depends on the rest of your combo of parts
3 yes will bolt on though might be some air cleaner to hood clearance issues to overcome in some body styles

Howdy Paul:

If the carb is labeled Motorcraft it is likely a 2150- Not the best to adapt to our engines for several reasons. Is there a tag attached to one of the top screws? Is there a stamped marking on the foot of the base. What is the cast on number just behind the accelerator pump rod, on the side of the float bowl.

Motorcraft became the name after Autolite went out of business and FoMoCo took over production, about the 1974 model year. That lasted until carbs were replaced with Fuel injection. Motorcraft carbs became a test best for gimmicks and crutches to get more fuel efficiency and cleaner. One of the innovations was a VVI, which stands for variable venturi Induction, but it was really a variable air bleed system, worked pretty good. But there were several other issues that make the 2150s less desireable. they are a good source of scrounging jets and electric chokes.

For a mostly stock adaptions a 1.01 or 1.02 2100 from the '63 -'64 260 V8 make for a good match. They still show up at swap meets for dollars.

The adapter route is a 2nd choice to direct mounting, but if you have room it is an option. What year is your car? What carb do you have now?

Thanks for the info David.
I just realized that I have your book… duh! I have decided to go with a Tri-power setup. Do you know if I can run 3 Autolite 1100’s? I have two and get another for $30.

Yes you can. Do a search for tri-power. Several of the guys here have done it and there are tips for tuning linkage that you will find very helpful.
