I bought a 78 200 CID engine to replace the 170 that is presently in my 63 Econoline Pickup. I am looking for some advice on what carburetor to use and what spacer plate. I know that the bore on the intake manifold is larger on this 200 (1-11/16th). I have been advised to use a 69-70 Bronco or Econoline 170 six spacer plate in order to minimize linkage headaches.

Any recommendations? I am not looking for speed here. Just want to maxiize stock performance.

Anyone know more about the spacer plate issue and where I might be able to locate one? The spacing between the mounting holes is 3-1/4". Plate has boss on casting with hole for mounting linkage and includes the connection for PCV.

I figure that with all these in-line six Ford maniacs gathered in one spot... Someone must be up to the challenge of helping me get this problem resolved. This is the last thing keeping one sweet truck off the road.

What kind of carb are you going to use? (if you don't have one, you might think about a Holley 5200 or a Weber 32/36 for stock power) - You can call Clifford and get a plate, or you can take a plate (or get one from them) to your local machine shop and have them drill you one out to work (I got one that was the wrong size and I took it to a machine shop, told them what I needed, and they fixed me right up)
