Carb upgrade

I'm starting to collect parts to update my stock 1966 200. I have an updated ignition with Pertronix, ignitor, coil and wires. I have the "performance handbook". I have read many posts on this forum, and now have several questions. What is the difference between the Holley 5200 and Weber 32/36 carbs? The Weber 32/36 series have many versions like DGAV, DFV, DGEV, DGV, DGES, DFAV, and I'm sure many others. What are the differences? Or what works on these sixes best? A recent post about jetting is pretty overwhelming for this shade-tree mechanic. Can anyone tell me a good idle/performance and driveability jet combo? What about jetting this carb for higher elevations(Denver)? I think I will modify the Stovebolt adaptor and direct mount adaptor to the log as per Jamers recent post. Will Stovebolt sell a rebuilt carb with my jet choice? Any suggestions and proven carb info would be appreciated. Thanks Lowell

Hi Lowell 66,

The Holley/Weber 5200 and the Weber 32/36 are the same carb. Holley made the 5200 under license from Weber.

Weber DGV's and DFV's are the same except they are mirror images of each other. DGV's are correctly oriented for our motors and are the same as the H/W 5200.

The third letter DG "A" V denotes the choke type. "A" is a water heated choke, you run your heater hose thru it, "E" is electrical and no letter is either manual or none, I'm not sure, I think manual.

Lately I've learned that the Carter/Weber is a copy of the DFV.

Stovebolt has both of these carbs at a great price I highly recommend him. Look for Stang200's post on jet sized they are pretty much dead on.

Hope this helps you some.

Bob

Howdy Lowell:

Know that the vacuum signal from a Weber or the H/W clones will not be compatible with your stock Load-a-Matic distributor. The L-a-M requires a carb with the Spark Control Valve, describe in a stickie at the top of this forum.

Many here have crutched "fixes" from running no vacuum advance to running a full manifold vacuum signal to the stock distributor. None work well, all work sorta.

The best solution is to convert your ignition to a DuraSpark II ignition system at the same time. The combination is a very nice upgrade.

Just thought your should know going in.

Hey Bob- thanks for the great and concise summary. That helps alot.

Thanks Bob and David for your info.
I'm planning on using my current Pertronix in a newer mechanical/vacuum advance type distributor.
So the Holley 5200 or the Weber DGV 32/36 should work ok for my application. What about either of these carbs CFM's? So either of these carbs will have the highest 270 CFM or how do you tell their CFM? Thanks Lowell
