Carb

Ok so right now I have a HW 2bbl on my 200. I have tried tuning it(changing jets too) and I am tired of trying and having it run like crap or not even run. So I am looking at getting a Holley 350cfm 2bbl from a guy to put on. Dad said it would be too big for the 200, is that true or will it work with a little tuning?

Engine is just a 200 bored .040 and a DSII dizzy. No other perfomance parts on engine.

The 7448-350 holley will work fine.
Try a 59 jet for a near stock engine. Bill

I have one collecting dust if interested. I used it before for a 351 cfm autolite on my 250. PM me to work out a price, it is for the larger bore diameter. Just curious, how is your HW mounted? Can't that adapter be made to work? I would go the direct mount personally, much more performance gain to be had.

Are you positive it is the carb that is causing the poor running? Timing, slipped balancer, vacuum leaks etc
I would hate to pour money into a second carb and still have tuning issues.

This will be my 4th carb for the car. 2 1bbls and 2 2bbls. Actually have a 3rd 1bbl, but it won't work since it is for a 4cyl fox body.

Timing is at around 10* at idle. Balancer was replaced back in December after the old one broke. Don't think I have any vacuum leaks. It was running decent before, but dad didn't like it and wanted to rejet, so I did around 4 times got this running somewhat decent and then it started smoking and the plugs were completely black and covered in gas.

I'm only paying 30 for the other 2bbl.

351 celi --> I would like to go direct mount, but my dad doesn't want me to mess up the head.

This is my current setup. I do have a problem setting timing above around 12*. When I installed the DSII it was my first swap ever and I put the vacuum advance so close to the block it hits when you get to 12*. I can lower it, but can't raise it. Once school it out I am going to cut the wires and redo it, it ran good at 16*, but I can't get that high.

move each of your wires, on the distributor cap, one position opposite the rotation of the rotor. This will allow you to back the timing off away from the block.

Thanks. I did that and now I can set the timing. I still get the popping noise from the exhaust and gas on my plugs even trying to move timing and changing mixture. Haven't gotten the other 2bbl yet.

You said you got it running then black smoke and black plugs? If that's the case, is your choke completely openning after warming up?
It sounds like the choke isn't openning.
Ken

It opens up. It smoked when the choke was closed. It doesn't do it anymore since I changed my primary idle jet, made it smaller.

Ok, if it is still running rich, is the float set correctly? Also is the needle and seat closed when the float is level? Also it could also be the air bleeds are dirty, squirt carb cleaner into the air bleeders while the engine is running. It sounds like the idle circuit is dirty.
Just my thoughts,
Ken
