The other day I got a quote of $99 to rebuild my Carter YF 1bbl (at a place nearby called Carburetor Factory) for my I6 200. That may sound ok but I've also been thinkin about a 2bbl upgrade for the added boost. I know some of you here have done this this may sound like a stupid question but what all is involved here in a 2bbl Upgrade do I just need a 2 to 1 Adapter and thats it or does more need to be done to the engine? Someone suggested that if I do this I should find an Autolite or Motorcraft 2bbl Carb in the Junk Yard and rebuild it myself cause they're supposedly easy to work on. I've never done any kind of Carb work.

8) carbs are easy to rebuild, especially the 1 and 2bbl carbs. if you want to go to a 2bbl carb, and want the autolite 2100, then best to have the carb pad machined to accept the 2bbl.

Hi MavJoe,

Not sure what you accellerator likage looks like. I assume the Mav uses a cable. Not a big issue, but will impact the carb I would recommend given the fact that you want to keep it simple. There are 2

Hit submit by accident. To finish my thought, there are two carbs I would recommend, the Holley/Weber 5200 or the Motorcraft 2100-1.08. Either is a good carb for 200 I6. The 2100 is easier to set up with a cable linkage. Either one will work well with an adapter. The 2100-1.08 is the one used on the early 260 V8. They can be purchased re-built, but they are quite easly to rebuild. They are a little hard to re-jet as the jets are hard to find. But, the 260 jetting apparently works well on the 200 as those who use this carb are happy with it. The 5200 can be purchased rebuilt from Stovebolt for $65. They are easily tuned as parts are very easy to get. However, since most were originally used on smaller engines a re-tuning will be needed. This carb is more complex than the 2100. Air cleaners are ease to get either way. Neither is a very difficult conversion.

Be happy to provide more input if you like.

Enjoy the trip - Steve
