Need help adjusting the carter RBS one barrell carb it seems that it should be simple enuff only one screw. I rebuilt it and it runs and starts fine sometimes a lil hard to start but the adjustment screw can't be right it is almost all the way out any information on how to adjust the carter RBS model carb correctly would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

with air cleaner in place and engine idling at normal operating temperature (choke wide open, fast idle screw not contacting fast idle cam), adjust throttle stop screw for correct engine RPM.
Turn idle mixture screw out until engine speed begins to drop off, then turn screw in to lean mixture until maximum idle speed obtained. Continue to turn screw in until engine speed begins to drop off due to lean mixture.
Finally, turn srew out just enough to secure maximum engine idle speed for a lean as possible setting. Readjust idle speed to correct RPM. If you need to change idle speed for more than 50 RPM, repeat idle mixture adjustment.

Is that Carter the original carb the engine came with? Do you still have the tag?

I believe so I was told it is all original and the tag is still on it
it reads :

Autolite
DOZF-C
A 9 J15

on carb boby it reads

0-2044
Carter
model RBS

manual transmission, desired engine idle speed -> 750 RPM with the throttle position solenoid energized, 500 RPM with the solenoid off.
The adjustment explained above should be performed with the solenoid disabled (bullet connector)

throttle valve clearance on C-code RBS carbs came factory set .040" in 1970.

Thanks Simon ,

I will tryi to fine tune it this morning
Will let tyou know how it turns out ...
