We have a 200 with a '80 head on it. We are looking at buying a Carter RBS for a '71-'74 ford truck 250. Would this carb work as well or better than a YF on that engine? What are the pro's and con's of each? Thanks!
I dont know too much about the yf but I ran the rbs on my 200 and it was a great carb. Definetley ran better than the original autolite. The thing I liked about it was the fact of a 1 piece casting so it didnt leak and the removable fuel bowl. The fuel bowl unscrews in minutes allowing complete acces to all the guts of the carb making rebuilding and cleaning easy. The only reason I took it off was I got a killer deal on a new 350 holley. This was my favorite 1bbl carb and I definetly tried more than my fair share>
In addition to the above, the RBS is also shorter, simplier and is rated with more CFMs then any YF at 215. Like the other one barrels, it suffers from a weak accelerator pump system that requires periodic R & R.
About the only down side is that the fuel like will require some fabrication as will linkage and aircleaner.
Thanks for all the replies! We ended up buying the carb for $60 bucks, too good a deal to pass up. It's a NOS so it was too good a deal to pass up. I'll be letting ya'll know how it works for me once I get it here and installed.
