CI cast air cleaner

To my knowledge, it hasn't been tried on this combination yet. If you order one and it doesn't fit, you can send it back. Also note that the tops are on backorder right now. I have the bases and filters, but the tops are being polished and still need to be painted (if applicable). They expect them to be ready in approximately two to three weeks.
We tried one on Mike Raley's 66 Mustang, and it didn't clear. However that was with our aluminum head, which is an inch taller than the OZ head. I also think the 67's and 68's have more hood clearnance, but I'm not sure? Overall height is 3.5 inches, measured from the bottom of the flange (that sits on the carb).
We are looking into the possiblilites of making a drop base, or seeing if we can find a shorter air cleaner (as long as it flows enough cfm). We are also working on an adaptor (or a new drop base) so it will fit 1V carbs, and the progessive Webers.

i'd think that would be more than enough info to figure it out if he's got the engine in the vehicle
ozconv, do you have the engine in the car? if so you should be able to use something as simple as play-doh to test the clearance
just make two cones of play doh high enough so that it'd be the height of the cleaner and carb, then put them at the edges of where the cleaner would sit and close the hood, if the play doh is dented, you need to figure something else out
Mike, the cleaner looks to be somewhere around 12" long? if so, ozconv you need to put a cone about six inches from center of the carb towards the front of the car, as well as to the rear, would be a good idea to put one in the center as well

Unfortunately, the original set-up is still on the car and I probably won't be doing the swap for another month or two. Right now I am aquiring the parts and having the head checked out. I already have the cast valve cover with polished fins so I would like to eventually buy the matching air cleaner if it will work. Once the OZ head is on I will measure the clearance but I was just curious if anyone had done it yet. Mike, incidentally, what kind of time frame is there on the drop base just in case it won't fit when I get to that point?
A nicely sculpted drop base should actually flow OK. It's the harsh angles that will compromise air movement.
I wonder (thinking aloud) if it's possible to press a heatshield for popular carbs, which includes a silicone rubber drain hose? That way, any fuel spill from carb adventures would drain harmlessly onto the road, below the headers.
