Clifford Jacobs Compusensor Ignition?

I was wondering if anybody has heard of the Clifford Jacobs Compusensor Ignition system. I have a chance to buy one and the guy says it fits any car with a 6 or 12V negative ground. I tried searching for it on the interenet and found that Clifford sold it but don't know what motor it is for. The guy says it is very easy to install. It looks like an ignition module box with a few wires coming out of it. I was thinking of buying it since it's only $10. Any info on this would be helpful.

I don't know about the Clifford relationship, but I've got a Jacobs Electronics ignition book and it does talk about his compusensor capacitive discharge ignition systems. Kind of like an MSD in that it is a capacitive system, although MSD is multi-spark and the Jacobs is single spark. Jacobs makes big deal about how his system actually senses the amount of resistance required to fire each cylinder, adjusting the voltage differently for each cylinder. So that way each cylinder gets a spark customized for it's unique fuel mixture/compression/etc. I don't know if the MSD system does this or not, from what I read in their literature they never specifically call it out like Jacobs does so I'm not sure if it is a specifically unique feature for Jacobs or just a normal characteristic of any capacitive discharge system.

In my opinion, if it's only $10 I'd pick it up and give it a try. Can't hurt and it could help, sounds a bit like a poor man's MSD. Like the MSD boxes, I think it's pretty generic and will work on most engines.

8) new the jacobs electronic ignition systems run in the range of $400 or more, so $10 is a deal. the jacobs ignition does use resistance feedback to tell the computer to up the spark energy as needed to the plugs. and as i recall it does have mutlispark capability at low speeds, but goes to single spark at higher engine speeds where it isnt needed.

Cool, thanks a lot for the info guys it is very helpful. The guy said it works on any 6 or 8cyl motor and is new in the box so I am going to buy it. Maybe I'll see some improvement with this unit over the Pertronix. Does anybody know how it hooks up?

Hi,
I installed a Jacobs ignition a few years back on a 1975 alfa guilietta sedan with dual DCOE webers. Probably a very similar system to the one you are looking at. It made a world of difference in terms of starting, smooth running, and mileage. That was a complete system with a CDI unit, coil and sparkplug wires. Plus, it included a disable switch as a security measure. Not that the alfa stock ignition was great to begin with, I'm sure, but this thing really worked.
