Confused about cams

...no one has bought from them recently...
I think you'll find that pretty true of most performance parts; there's a lot more opinions than buyers.

Who gave those regrind prices? I'm just curious. Remember with ANY new aftermarket cam you are probably going to need that hardened distributor gear.

That aside, plenty of things take a couple of weeks to sort out. It's the nature of a small marketplace. My biggest gripe comes when I'm not informed of delays.

The less you change at present, the better your chances of it running well on reassembly. I've seen people overstretch their abilities and budget, change too much at once and then wonder why their "fantastic" rebuild doesn't cut it. One guy didn't even know he'd put the rings upside down.

If you get it back together soon, and keep things simple, the fun will return.

$150-200 2 weeks + for a regrind is the best I could find around here and I didnt like any of the people I talked to.
When Classic Inlines has new cams for like $145, why go somewhere else?

The regrind prices are from local shops. I got their phone numbers from other shops that sometimes use them when they have to do a regrind. It seems that around here they only do regrinds when they have to. I guess we must have more cam dealers than machine shops? There are some shops around here getting $100/hr. I would imagine there is a fair amount of setup and layout time in a cam regrind? Maybe more if they have not done the same one before??

At this point I will be happy if it runs as well as it did before I took it apart. The body only has a couple of years in it as is so if I can get this motor to last while I work on the body all will be good. When the body is in better shape I will be more willing to spend more on a motor to go with it, the question will be will I have the money at that time, but thats the fun of cars.

Not that I have the money or a motor worthy of a new cam right now but...
Anyone buy anything from Isky recently? Or have they been sold out and are no longer what they used to be like the rest of them? They have a set that looks pretty good and everyone I have talked to said they were a good company but no one has bought from them recently.

8) what do you mean by sold out? isky, comp cams, sig erson, crane, crower, clay smith are all good cam grinders, and good companies to deal with. the cam i recommended is $145 from classic inlines, and the lifters that go with the cam are $55. all made by clay smith, who is one of the top cam manufacturers in the world in my opinion. so instead of investing $200 in a reground cam, you can get new with lifters. sounds like a better deal to me.
