I have an ignitor unit inside of a dual advance dizzy and i did a dumb thing when i set it up initially. I put the sleeve too close to the unit and the sleeve was shaved off quite a bit while it dug into the unit. The unit and sleeve continue to work today but my engine isn't running too well. It has rough starts, it vibrates alot and it shuts off at times.
Is my understand correct that the radius of the sleeve would have an effect similar to that of dwell in points? Im assuming that now that the sleeve has been shaved down to a smaller radius the dwell time where the magnet doesn't connect to the unit is smaller and therefore the charge time for the coil is too small and im not getting an adequate spark. The coil heats up and recently its burned out two coils this month.
Is my reasoning right? Could this be the culprit? Does the pertronix have dwell?
