62 170, rebuilt everything....and I do mean everything..LOL. Question is, my new fuel tank wont be in for a day or two....I can poor fuel in the carb and get the motor to fire. If I stuck a fuel line in a gas can at the rear of the car, would it pump out of the can or does it need that equal gravitational flow as well for it to be able to pump that far? Thanks for any reply.

When my tank was in the shop I put a boat 3 gallon Gas tank in the trunk and patched it in to the tank pick up line and drove around for a week till the tank came back. Worked just fine. Mechanical pumps pull real good. Electric pumps are better at pushing, that's why they are mounted back by the tank.
