crossflow missing!

hey guys merry christmas. the 250 xflow in my ute is dropping no 1 and 5 cylinders ive changed the leads, cap rotor button and re-gapped the plugs (all good) ive done a compression test, and looked for leaks in manifold. i did a timing test and the closer the mark gets to the notch the worse it runs ( it looks as though the harmonic balancer has shifted) and now im stumped... could it be the lifters? ive had the rocker cover off and they seem fine but... i dont know. i find it funny that its one and five cylinder as that is the order it fires...

Basic things to test:

Verify TDC
Remove the rockers and test lift of each cam lobe

Is it points or electronic ignition? Tested both the coil resistances (primary and secondary)? How old is the timing chain (km)? They stretch a lot!
