D8 Head

Recently accuired a rebuilt D8 head with about 200 miles on it to put on the '65 200 block It appears that the valves and springs are stock (1.75 intake & 1.5 inch exhaust). I currently have a 264/274 Cam installed & 1.5 adjustable rockers I got from Mike to go with it. Will the head with the stock parts be ok with the upgraded cam and rockers. If all goes well, I do hope to add a Holley or Weber 2 bbl to the above configuration.

The combustion chambers might be a bit on the 'large' side. If you want to maintain or increase your compression ratio you should measure all of your stuff
How far down the cylinders are the pistons when they are top dead center?
How large are the valve reliefs?
How thick is your headgasket?
How large are the combustion chambers?

Then take that info over to the Falcon Performance Compression Calculator and figure out how you can obtain your desired compression ratio. Something in the 8.9-9.2 range is what I'd call perfect for a daily driver. You can make adjustments by purchasing a thinner headgasket, decking the block, or milling the head.

I put a D6 head on a '66 200 block. Had to mill the block 0.030 to zero deck height AND mill the head about 0.040 to get the compression ratio in the low 9:1 range. Use the Compression calculator and measure the combustion chambers!!!
