My engine wasn't just rebuilt but she started making a horrible banging noise last night. I went out to check the timing (THIS IS BEFORE THE BANGING STARTED) and when I turned it over, CLANGity CLANG!. I shut it off quick waited a few seconds and gave it another turn...same thing. I went from checking the timing to this in <2 hours:
I'm planning to drop the pan tonight and see what I find.
Now in reading what rbohm wrote, DAMN IT!. Would low tranny fluid cause this really loud banging noise?!? I'm pretty sure my tranny fluid is down a bit...maybe even quite a bit (I was planning to add fluid last night before this happened!).
Oh yeah, the other wierd thing that be a clue for someone smarter than me. I did try a third time to turn it over. It didn't make the clanging as badly this time but the RPMs were doing a steady WAVE! climb up, then drop down, back up, back down. Does that indicate anything in particular I should look for?
Thanks all!
