Can i use the distributor from a aussie xflow 250 in my 1968 200.

Yes, but you'll need a spare cap and a new bush and reluctor assembly and contol unit. There is nothing worse than an ignition system you can't service!

In any case, the American stuff is easier to find, and thats the winner. I'd say the more modern Aussie Bosch set-up, in its home country, is likely to be better. It is compact, light, and has the adjustability and simplicity you'd love.

If someone was prepared to do a deal which made sense, then you'll find the Bosch very servivable. Everything on it was easy to get. Now, the control boxes are over AUD 275, but the bush is only AUD 10, cap and reluctor very cheap. The TFI system is like AUD 95 just for the 3.8/4.0 90 degree V-6-style units in the 85 up engines.

There are three types of Aussie distributor. The Bosch made Duraspark from 1980 to 1984, then the rather junky 1985-1993 version TFI, found mostly with a knock sensor. There was the earlier non electronic which was similar to the US one, from 1966 to 1979.

It's that shaft size issue. I've winged it with no problems for hard up people, but refuse to prescribe or endorse fitting the smaller shaft unit, in the larger hole. If it locks up, things get ugly in a jiffy. It'll cost more than a $275 rebuild on the dizzy, to dismantle and reassemble the engine after pulling bits of metal out it.

That's why I suggest you talk to the people who did my conversions. Five distributor rebuilds for me; the four I've fitted so far, run like tops.

Cheers, Adam

I would not. There is considerable pressure on the lower end of the shaft from the gear drive. If the shaft is not properly fitte to the block, the shaft will deflect and cause the gear to misalign, leading to gear failure.
