DSII - Pink Wire

I know there have been many posts on the on the DSII install and regarding the pink resistor wire, so with apologies this is another Pink wire question. I have everything in and wired. Just have not hooked up a 12V source yet. I read so many posts that say they removed it, some left it, etc. So I am not sure how it can be different and not the same for all installs. So I just want to be sure what I am doing here as I read in the CI instructions about burning up the wires , etc. . Here is the story / questions.

Have a brand new 66 Mustang Metal Alloy harness. I see the Pink Resistor wire. It has a braided cover/sleeve over it and it is stamped RESISTOR CUT OR SPLICE. The Pink wire comes off the harness and has a male connector on the end of it, Currently, on the new harness, it is not connected to anything. There is also Green / Red wire on the back of the ignition switch which is about 6 inches long and it has a female connector on it , also currently with nothing connected to it. I also have the old harness (which was a 65 Mustang) and on that harness the pink wire (male connector), is connected to the Green ./ Red Female connected on the back of the ignition switch. So it looks like this Pink wire connects to the Green / Red wire off the back of the switch. Assuming I must NOT use this pink wire in any capacity with the DSII my questions are:

1 - The pink wire in the new harness is already Not connected to anything on the harness. I assume I can just wrap electrical tape around the end , or cap it and just tape the wire down to the harness so that it is not flapping around. I assume this is the same as cutting / removing it. Sound OK ?

2 - I am curious, In a standard / normal distributor setup how does this pink resistor wire actually drop voltage from 12V to 6V ? I was expecting some type of physical resistor or something to change the voltage. Is it purely done based on the gauge/size of the wire or is there some type of resistor

3 - I have this Green / Red wire on the back of the ignition switch. Is this 12V coming out of the switch? and can I use it to put 12V to the DSII? (i.e. 12V goes into the gold resistor, then comes out of the gold resistor and goes to the + side of the coil)

4 - Assuming I can use the Green / Red wire as the 12V Source , any reason I could not splice it , and use it to power 12V to both the Gold Resistor / Coil and to also put 12V to the electric choke on the carb ?

Thanks in advance

Bill

1 - Correct. Ignore and hide the pink wire, pull ignition power from somewhere else.

2 - Is it purely done based on the gauge/size of the wire. In my '71 Buick, GM used a tiny-gauge wire that ran from the column to the back seat, then up to the engine. Silly, I know, but... it worked.

3 - Only way to tell is with either a diagram or checking for continuity in different switch positions with a meter. I don't know about gold coil resisters, my setup (DS dizzy, GM HEI module, MSD coil) has no resistors.

4 - Yes you could use it for an electric choke, but be aware that many Ford electric chokes operate off of lower voltage, usually coming off of one of the alternator terminals. I forget the details, but searching here oughta turn then up.

Many thanks for the reply. Will put a meter on the Green / Red wire and see what it reads. If it's 12V that I will use it to power the coil on the DSII setup. Thanks again

This is a link to the ignition wiring for a 1966 Mustang. On the lower right you can see the wires coming out of the ignition switch. #16 is the red/green wire and it goes to the pink wire. Tap into that wire or simply unplug the pink wire and use the red/green wire straight off the switch. That is your switched 12 volt source. However, if you want something downstream, you can trace it to another lead in the engine bay. I ran another wire from the red/green to the 12v coil when I put in my Pertronix.

"...hookup on the alt for the electric choke is the stator lug."
I put a lill in-line fuse on it, probably don't need it tho, just insurance.

Check the pink wire.

Honestly, I found my ballast resistor had been removed previously so my pink to ground reading was equal to battery voltage, which is what you want.

Bottom line, check it first before doing anything else.

Thanks, this worked for my 67, with the DSII swap !!!
