Dui is fantastic.

I just installed my new DUI set-up, and boy can I tell the difference. I never had any other set-up except stock, so I don't know if the same performance is available with something else. However, I'm impressed whith a simple change of the Dizzy to a stock engine to wake it up.

However, I'm having considerable pinging on load. Plugs set at 55, timing set at 14 degrees, stock for auto is 12(i believe).

Am I having vacuum issues, or is the stock auotlite 1100 just not capable of handeling the extra shock form the new DUI?

Do a search for the 1100 or Dizzy or Spark Control Valve. The 1100 and original dist are designed to work together. If you change one you should really change both.

There has been alot of talk about how to setup the dizzy with the 1100. You'll just have to do that search and read up on the subject.

Good luck, Ric.

Try running the advance from the manifold instead of the port on the carb. The AT cars have a line that comes off the log below the carb, you can just put a T in that line and run a line down to the dizzy. Pretty much any line that comes below the throttle blades of the carb should work. 10- 12* seems to be the range a lot of guys here are running in, depending on the year some of the factory specs were as low as 6*. Mine seemed to be happy around 10. Do you know for a fact that your mark is correct? Try backing it down 2* at a time and see what happens. You could also try a tank full of the next grade up of gas from what you usually use. If that helps you could just have some carbon build up thats getting hot.

Thanks for your help. I changed the timing to 10 BTDC and that seemed to make a difference. I unhooked the vacuum line and at top speeds 80 to 90 mph it seem to ping a little. I'm going to pull the plugs this morning recheck the gap and clean them. I'll replace the vacuum line and retard the timing a bit to about 8 BTDC. I will keep you posted thanks.

Howdy Mark and All:

FYI- your stock Autolite 1100 has a Spark Control Valve that modifies the vacuum signal to the stock LoadoMatic Distributor. It is neither full manifold vacuum or ported vacuum. So you know what type of vacuum signal the new DUI distributor requires? For full vacuum tap as Fordconvert suggests.

For a ported vacuum source you will need a different carb. For a stock appearance and a little more power find an Autolite 1101 from a '69 Mustang with a 250 engine. These 1101 carbs have a ported vacuum source and no SCV. They are rated at 215 cfm as compared to 185 for '67 and earlier 1100s from a 200 engine.

"Do you know for a fact that your mark is correct?" Be sure to check the timing mark on the damper to see that it indicates top dead center when the #1 piston is at top dead center. It is not unusual for the outer ring of the damper to slip and give an inaccurate indication.

With the hotter spark of the DUI your engine may require a colder heat range spark plug.

Adios, David

I pulled the plugs they looked really good. The gap was about 40, I regapped them at 55. I rechecked the timing, set it about 8 BTDC, then ran the car hard. I traveled the back roads with stop, go, & sometimes hitting 80 to 90 MPH. The car ran great.

I did back down the Idea a little, about 600 to 800 rpms. Runs about the same at ideal as it was before, however I was running it about 800-1100 to get a good ideal out of the stock dizzy.

fordconvert, thanks for your advise on the vaccum. I will get a tee and try that, then reset the timing maybey to 10 BTDC

CZLN6 & 66200i6 thanks for your help. Im actually building an engine w/ozzy head, I have a ford 2100 2V carb, and a 5200 Holly 500cfm. I didn't want to put one of these on quite yet because of the throttle set-up, the ozzy intake is way differnet. Any Ideas how I can set somthing up now and it will work w/the ozzy?
