DUI Wiring Help?

You have to have a full 12 or 14.5 volts for it to work right according to Mikes page. http://classicinlines.com/DUI_install.asp

Can you wire it to the run side of the starter relay thats in the engine compartment or do you have to wire it directly to the ignition switch?

I would rather run it to the relay if possible.

Trying to figurre a few things out :) :)

Doug, use a relay. Run the hot wire to the relay from the battery side of the solenoid so you have a full battery voltage.

The trigger wire to the relay can be from the ignition switch.

8) you need to run it through the ignition switch if you want to be able to shut the ignition system off. you can use a relay triggered by the ignition switch, and draw full power for the ignition from the battery though.

The best way is to use the old coil wire to trigger the relay, and run a new wire to the battery. This allows full voltage to the distributor, but still uses the ignition switch. The DUI only draws three amps, but use a 15 amp SPST relay.

Whats a spst relay and where do I buy one?

I removed the resistor wire and have been powering the DUI off that wire for the last year.

According to DUI's website, I can have the ignition module checked at any auto parts store so I'm going to have it checked today.

SPST is "Single Pole, Single Throw". It's the most basic type of relay.

Be sure that the one you buy, is rated for continuous usage, like a headlamp relay. Those for horns etc, are only for instantaneous use, as they generate more heat than can be dissipated in constant use.
