Whats the difference between the two and...

Should I upgrade to the DuraSpark II on a 1976 200/6 auto with headers and better carb for mild street use?

A '76 Maverick should have had a Duraspark II from the factory. The modules are different, the harness connections, and the two use different distributor caps. The DII uses male (HEI) connections while the DI uses the old style female connections.

If you already have a DI and it's working well, you probably won't see much of a difference between the two.

Howdy Back:

The '76 model year is listed with a DSII, but since FoMoCo used its "Empty bin Policy" for parts upgrades it is possible that you might have a DSI system. The obvious difference is the size of the distributor caps. The DSI has a small diameter, old style cap. The DSII has a larger diameter cap.

Either is a good system.

Adios, David.

This is the dist. and box from my old 250 , every other '76 I6 maverick I`ve seen had the same dist but I`ve seen some '76 V8 mavs with the bigger dist and all the '77s I`ve seen had the bigger dist too.

BTW right now I`m running the old DS I box with a DS II dist on my 302 will that hurt anything ?

Sounds like I should be okay staying with the DuraSpark I. Can this system handle a better coil?
