Duraspark or Pertronix.

Some advantages for Duraspark over Pertronix:

1) If you currently have a pre - '68 distributor, the Duraspark also gives you centrifigal advance

2) The Duraspark II has a larger cap with male HEI terminals. This opens up opportunity for larger diameter, and color options for ignition wires.

3) If it ever fails, Duraspark parts are more easily found at parts stores.

Duraspark won't fit on my '63 170 block, so I will wait until I swap to a newer 200 and then go Duraspark. And then go with the largest cap and a 12 volt coil. And get a carburetor to match the vacuum advance being used.

Thanks,

what car and engine do you have?
it's possible that you can't switch to DSII, or already have it

Duraspark, hands down, if it will fit in you engine & you don't care about originalty.
If you have to use the pertronix use the pertronix 1. William

This is the reason I went DS2. I've run both, and performance wise, they are both vast improvements and are pretty much equal. But, if you every have a problem, DS2 parts can be had at pretty much any general automotive store. This may not be an issue with weekend drivers or if you want your car to look original. My mustang is a daily driver once it gets on the road in the summer, so being able to get parts easily is important.

Thanks for the info. I have a 64 1/2 mustang with an early 200. It looks like the DS2 is the way to go. I have found a distributor for pretty cheap, can I get the controller at my auto parts shop? The wiring I figured I could handle on my own since the dist. doesn't come with the little harness.

Thanks,

Andrew

actually...
64 was the year they started changing the blocks around slightly, it is possible that the hole the dizzy goes in will be too small for the DS2 distributor

what's the casting code on the block? it'll be on the passengers side, underneath the exhaust manifold

Sorry it took a while to get back, I have ahd some family stuff keeping me busy recently. The casting number on my block is C5DE-6015-H. Does anybody have any input as to what type of car I should get a DSII from? How does one recurve a DSII?

Thanks!!

Andrew, try a late 70's Fairmont. As far as recurving a dizzy, I'd personally let a pro do it. There are several factors to consider when recurving. Things like vehicle weight, cam profile, and final gear ratio. I bought a professionally recurved DS2 from Scott at Reincarnation Auto. Here's a link to his site: http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/index.html He uses a Sun Distributer machine to get it right.
