Ebay turbos.

Hey guys. I know they are not the quality of Turbonetics or Garret or Holset etc. I know they suck. I know they are grenades ready to explode etc. I also know that I stand a very good chance of buying an imperfectly sized turbocharger the first time around, and knowing that it will likely be replaced after finding out the sizing could be better, it makes sense to me to buy one of these to get my project started. If I do get it right on the first try, I will upgrade to a quality unit at the first sign of trouble. If not I will replace it with another with different specs and try again.

With that being said, do any of you guys have any experience with these, and specifically a particular brand or seller. it looks like these may all be made by the same Chinese manufacturer, but I am not sure. If they are, I guess its a matter of looking for the best price/seller and pulling the trigger on it.

Any help here guys? Besides telling me to buy a better quality turbo.

At various times over the last 6 to 12 months, Hit Rod magazine has done several builds using Chinese turbo; at least 3 (one Chevy, one Dodge and one Ford, IIRC). They made tremendous power and, I believe, were impressed with the cost/performance trade-off.

It might be good reading to find those build articles. Being that they are rather current - I assume it should not be too difficult.

Which engine are you going to use for your experiment, 200,289,351.what are you looking for it to do ???[*]

It will be going on my daily driver; a Fairmont with a 200, fresh stock rebuild and a T-5. My focus is on reliability and maintaining good mileage while occasionally burning the tires up for no good reason whatsoever. 8)

Money is money, so you'll use your smarts to get a good deal. Enjoy the search!

Do what I do. Buy a reconditioned or New Old Stock GT3582 from a Ford supplier. They used to be AU$ 3400 when new in 2003, and the price was without exchange. Now its 3/4's that. Its specs are 0.5 A/R front, 1.06 rear. When the 0.7 A/R is used, the twin cam 4 liter tends to show more lag, but you can use a 0.7 a/r, the common aftermarket one. The one I suggest has a Ford specific case, and it suits a nice small 3.6 liter (219 cid) inter cooler and a 200 to 250 cubic inch engine. http://www.capa.com.au/prices_turbo.htm ... eplacement _ford

No sense in paying twice for a $1000 PRC turbo that doesn't meet Fords performance and durability tragets. PN#774094-5001S, GT3582R, Ford Falcon BA-BF, 322 hp and 332 lb-ft. But it can do 600 hp with the right mods, and 505 flywheel hp is not uncommon with no modifications at all.

$2,689.00 in Australian dollars without a core. Its 1600 ex US as a 0.7 A/R unit for an Evo 4 or whatever, they don't list the Falcon spec item in the USA.

That ball bearing turbo, it'll live for ever. The rest of your engine just has to be man enough for the job...

However, one of similar specs will get the job dome for a lot less...Its all up to how you manage the power...

For specs see http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... y_Code=GRT

But be warned...if you don't get the right bits, its really expensive to create things you don't have in your hot little hands, so keep looking around and good fortune!
