The Duraspark I was introduced in the early seventies to help with emissions requirements. It is very much like the DII in function, but has a small conventional cap and rotor. The DII was introduced in 1976 and has a large cap and rotor for improved resistance to arcing.
The connnectors and the control boxes are different between the two versions.
I guess so. 1976 was a transition year, so it depends on when and where you car was produced.. Ford has a way of phasing things in so it's not unusual to find previous years parts on cars if they are the same in form, fit, and function.
