I'm trying to wire up the electric choke on my Carter YF, but don't know which alternator terminal to wire it to. There's a little white wire and a little black-and-white wire (along with the ground and output wire). Which one's switched power ?

i adapted an electric choke off a later model fairmont for my stock carb....ran the wire to the starter solenoid.....works great!!

The electric choke does not need a switched power source. It does need constant voltage, but only when the engine is running. If it's connected to a switched source, then you could burn the heater element in the choke up when the key is left on without the engine running. That is why Ford hooked it up to the black terminal on the alternator (a.k.a. the STA terminal). By connecting it to this terminal, the choke will only get voltage when the engine is running.

The stator terminal worked great - except for one little thing that I don't understand. For the first ten minutes or so of running, the alternator warning light stayed on. Then it just magically turned off and stayed off. Hasn't been on since, but it scared me at first!
