So this afternoon I call over to see if I can pick up the engine this Friday...
And they are still buying parts... according to them it was to be done today.
They never mentioned any time in the last five months needing more parts...

They still have no valves.....
And now they say they cannot find them?

Here is what I need...
1.75 and 1.5 Intake and Exhaust Valves (Stainless) to install into an Aussie2v 250 head... I decided to go for the US valves and hardware since I have no Aussie Valves... and since it would make changing things in the future easier....

Is this guy crazy? according to him my only real option at this point is to have Manley make me a set.... custom. He says he has tried online and called around and everyone sends him to Manley? Is this what I need.... I think they will cost a penny or two... to have made that is...

Seriously need advice... I want to get this going.... I was planning on dropping it in this weekend... now I am waiting again.... I am going to go up there and hold their hand if I have to.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN... I am getting upset about this.... seems like I have to find everything for this guy...

i'd say point him over here, he should be able to look through and find some info here

pretty sure someone on here knows what you need to know though
good luck

I remember a post a while back about a source for valves and I am looking but have not found it yet.... :x

Jim,

If you want stainless, then you'll have to go custom. Figure about $150. Maybe an Oz supplier? You can buy stock US valves almost that large for about $4 a piece - find someone who carries Sealed Power, get them for a late 70's 200/250.

Now, I remember someone saying the Oz head used different valves? Anyone ever confirm any differences?

Well I found a post by Adam that says they should be for stock:

Heads: 1.649" Inlet, 1.388 Exhaust.
Stems: 0.3421" Inlet, 0.3416" Exhaust.

Lengths (measured, not ex-manual): 4.266" Inlet, 4.278" Exhaust.
Tip length (measured, again): 0.2185" Inlet, 0.2244" Exhaust

So for all purposes I could install the US stock valves...
I am waiting to see what their price from Manley is....
and I am searching around through old posts....

Hi, found this in the 144-250 Head Swap Sticky:

David,

SI Industries in Simi Valley, CA (805) 582-8285. They originally made them for Clifford,
apparently had enough demand that they stock them. The intake is #SEV 3007S (stainless),
exhaust #SEV 2530S (stainless). The cost is $9.90 each intake and exhaust. I've ordered a
set, should get them on Tuesday. They are going in my OZ 2v head. I'll let you know if we
have any problems. I will try to pictures before the head is instaled.

David,

I'm sorry, gave you the wrong number. The correct numbers are as follows:

(800) 564-8258
(805) 582-0085

That is it... SIIndustires....

I had it written down somewhere... but there are thousands of sheets of paper now.

I called they have them....
Cool... but they are pricey...
Ouch

But happy to have found them...

8)

If they are selling in stock off the shelf stainless valves for $10 each thats cheaper than stainless valves for my 2.3L!

Yeah, when I called the mahinist with the information he was amazed...
says he pays 125.00 for stainless Chevy valves.... he was planning on the custom set running over 200.00 easy....

It is so funny to see him shocked when I turn up a lead he could not find...

THANKS FSP...

again... making life easier..

wish I had looked in the sticky... I searched and searched but never looked there.

A couple of things to remember with the valves.

1) The US (SI valves) have 5/16 stems. The oz valves are 11/32 you will need to replace you guides

2) The retainers must also be replaced. The one piece 260 v-8 retainers are hard to find. I used one piece retainers from a ford 4.0 v-6

3) The oz head does not have hardened seats

4) Once you put in the hardened seats for the larger valves, the bowls look awfully small, you will need to open them up.

You might want to see if SI can make you a set with 11/32. You might be able to use the existing guides and stock one piece oz retainers.

8) mike it seems to me that bronze guides are going to be cheaper than a set of one off stainless steel valves.

I agree, however it took a while to get the guides, aparently the OD of the 5/16 guide is different from the OD of the 11/32 guide, bronze guides had to custom made. Ended up using iron guides.

Mike

Wow. this is getting more and more fun by the moment....

So I cannot get Bronze guides for these valves?
Can you get me the information on the Iron quides you used?

Any other things to be aware of like the springs? retainers? etc...

Thanks

Just received my head back yesterday. Installed the the larger SI Stainless valves and installed new steel guides. My machinist insisted on the steel, saying the bronze have to be fit sloppy for proper lube. I trusted his decision. He had no problem acquiring the steel guides. The valves were only 7.95 each and SI got them to me in 2 days. I also installed Clifford double valve springs, retainers and locks. You have to run the teflon double lock seals on the double springs and not the usual poly umbrella seals.
The part numbers are correct on the above post for the 1.75" and 1.50". SI does offer the bronze guides for them as well, just ask when you call.

This was on a US head.

Hope that helps.
Gary

There are a gazillion sizes of bronze guide. Something will be found to fit. You can't ream them, but otherwise no big deal.

Oz valves? We have imports (Asian; some are quite good) in a variety of specs.

Jimbo, remember that if the guy is head down working on good things, he may not have the time to dig up new stuff/contacts. Let him know in a friendly way that a thousand people are waiting on him.

Adam.

Well I dropped in on the machinist today (suprise...)
and everything looks SWEET.....

They ordered a set of the SI valves, and went with the Iron retainers.... they liked that idea the best.... he prefers them to bronze or steel.
So it should be going together next week... with a little luck I might have this the week after.
