My car has not been driven much since i got it in the spring (I tore out the entire brake system and rear suspension and replaced everyting) and now that i have it out on the road I noticed a knocking in the no.6? clyinder (the one to the rear of the engine). when i unplug the spark plug wire to that cly the engine runs great, as soon as i plug it back in it the rhythmic knocking starts up again. Is that a timing problem? or somthing else?

Thanks
Eddie.

that's possible, anybody else have any ideas though 'cause that would be a real pain in the a** right now. I need the car as a daily driver right now while I am looking for a 200 to swap in.

Eddie.

Thanks for the answer, sounds like I should try to hurry and find a 200ci that's in decent shape and drop it in. Anybody got one they would sell?

Thanks
Eddie.

Well i feel stupid. my falcon went to the mechanic so he could look it over and make sure it would pass inspection, turns out the "Knocking" was two manifold bolts were broken and the gasket had blown so an exhaust leak was making the niose. Oh well, this is my first car and i am learning as i go along. I guess I don't have to rush and try to find a new engine.

Thx
Eddie.

(I still plan to do a 200 swap but may wait a little longer now)

hey man, i'm stationed at Andrews right now, if you need help shoot me a PM and i'll see what i can do

That would be cool, maybe you could help with the swap whenever I get around to it. I would be good to have somebody who knows more than me help out.

Thx
Eddie.

How funny that Darwin would be making comments about heaven's door. Being the father of evolutionary theory and all.

Touche~

What he said, what he meant to say and what he didn't say were not near as sad as what he didn't know.

At any rate it is always nice to know that someone isn't going to have to spend bunches of money. So a little humor is in order, hehe..... 8)

After our Airman had offered to help, I think it was more like
Knock-knock-knockin' on Evan's door...
:P

Have to say, Mr Rose really messed up my recollection of that song. I have to think harder to hear Mr Zimmerman over the whining of that Axel.

So was it an exhaust manifold leak? Those go away too when you unplug the wire. They sound COMPLETELY different than a rod knock, though to the early ears, may sound scarry!

I was thinking piston slap, rod bearing, lifter (from sitting they alot of times do that).

As time goes on, youll learn how each sounds differently, and the unplugging the wire was pretty clever of you. Age old trick.

Welcome back!

yeah like i said this is my first car. I have virtually no experience with any of this, but i am learning pretty quickly. Right now i'm just glad my engine is OK.

thx
Eddie.
