Engine Knocking!

Hey just a quick question...normal stock engine with Pertronix and new 1100 carb. Plugs gapped at .051"

When I am under load I get the ringing knocking noise..

So do you advance or retard the dizzy for this...

Back the dist off (turn clockwise) one or two degrees, no more. At all odds a very slight amount. Do this until the knocking goes away. If you back it off so much that the engine performance is degraded, then you might want to step up one grade of fuel. But, you might have some other issues like the fuel/air mix. This can be adjusted with a vaccuum guage and the fuel mix screw. Turn it in until the engine begins to stumble, then back it out until you have the highest vaccuum, then just a touch more. Lean running can lead to overheating.

Do the distributor thing first. Then the fuel mix. I had the same problem and this cured it.
