All Small Six Engine number question

This relates to all small sixes
Hi guys,
Quick question. My 62 Fairlane has its original 170 and it has 4-2A5X stamped on the flat panel above the engine breather pipe in front of the distributor. I was wondering what this number meant as I thought only an N or T was meant to be stamped on there depending on the engine being a 144 or 170.
Cheers.

I'd say "Make sure it's what U think it is." 1st.

&/OR

Is the pad @ the down draft tube the right place to ck early 170 from the 200? thought not? Let's C if bubba shows up. He seems to have this detail down. I think he was at the plant @ that time...

Hi, after checking it would appear the engine in my 62 Fairlane is from a 61 Falcon. C1DE-6015-A. Now If worried it’s a 144 and not a 170. Anyway I can confirm this short of taking the head off and measuring the bore. The engine runs great so I’m not gonna pull it apart just to check.

Wait, wait !
Unless that's your objective for rebuild or other purpose.
Have U looked at above tech archive? or read (I think U said U ordered 'the Handbook').
I'm lazy'n dont wanna write it all out but these 2 sources (may B even the stickies on the face page for this forum (sm blk 6 performance).

1st off, I don't think a ford motor can B IDed by Model as they passed them around. 2nd I want U 2 no what U have (swaps R inevitable in a 40, 50 y/o vehicle). Peruse the litrature, can only help in this & MUCH else. The C1DE-6015-A IDs the FIRST yr, then the mods in that product line (so can B a few yr run).
Use what U have (C1DE-6015-A) & keep goin B4 tear dwn. Slo dwn.

Id also say: post thread w/title - "Help IDing short block" to get more of what U seek from our members. It will grab more for ur purpose than this one..
(partial list: frez plugs, castings 1/by dwn tube of ex on pass side & others 2/lill screw heads bubs usually can call out, H2O pump bolts - I'm leavin out sompin)...
Head has casting #s (on 'log') too...
