Howdy,

On my 200 when I turn the car off, the engine stumbles (clank, clack, ect) and sometimes shoots crap out of the carb. What is going on? Someone told me to replace the timing chain.
Thanks.

sounds like a timeing problem to me just try retimeing it or get a new chain

8) you have a classic case of run on or dieseling. what happens is a hot spot in the combustion chamber lights off the little fuel that enters as the engine winds down. when that happens the engine pulls more fuel from the carb and repaets the cycle. it is damaging to the engine so what you need to do is find the cause of the hot spot. usually carbon build up. the situation is made worse by timing that is too far advanced or retarded. run some water SLOWLY poured down the carb throat while the engine is running at about 1500 rpm. you can use a 20oz coke bottle, rinsed out thoroughly of course. two bottles worth should do the trick. after that take a run down the freeway, 20 miles should be enough, to blow out the carbon that has been loosend up. a fresh set of plugs and set the timing and you should be good to go.

One more thing, make sure your idle isn't set too high or too rich. This dieseling can occasionally cause the engine to kick backwards, destroying your distributor drive. When experiencing dieseling, shut the car off in gear.

8) good point tony, if you have a stick shift you can also turn on the ac before you shut the motor down.

i had the same problem when one of my vacuum lines got knocked off.

eventually it was timing though...i have a wobbly dizzy....
