Whats the optimum distance a pair of cutouts should be placed from a set of headers?

I can either mount them directly off the header collector or I can place them approximately 24"-28" back from the collector.

No other choice is possible..... :)

I'm talking about the Summit 2.25" cutouts that you unscrew the 3 wingnuts and pull the plate off that you mount in your exhasut system so you can run open headers at the track witout pulling the whole system off.

Thanks,

Doug

Doug, take a crayon & run a straight line back from the collector for say 24". When the line from the collector stops melting, then at that point put in your cut out. Do this testing at full throttle.
On a V-8 16" is close, but give the crayon deal a try. Bill

Directly behind the collector will give you poor results. 24" back should be fine. That would probably be just about middle of the door.

I have had my electric cutout sitting in a box now for about 2 years.

Also make sure you get the angle correct before you start welding.

That just means the collector isn't long enough...like most headers. Anyhow, back a bit gives you some wiggle room with regards to reversion waves, etc.

The problem I have with that set up is the exhaust has to make a sharp bend to exit (usually). Kinda defeats the purpose.
