EXHAUST MANIFOLD- MATAL TO METAL ?

HELLO THERE, HAS ANYONE BESISDES ME HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAKING. I HAVE HAD IT MACHINED AND EVEN TRIED TO GO WITHOUT A GASKET AS SOME HAVE SUGGESTED BUT HAVE HAD NO LASTING LUCK. ANY SUGGESTIONS? THANKS

My 200 Fairmont exhaust manifold leaked when I got it. It had leaked so long that there was a piece burned out of the mating surface. I got another one and a new gasket. I strongly advise that you make sure that the manifold and head surface are in good condition, use a gasket, and tighten the bolts from time to time, especially if you hear a leak. I put starlocks under my bolts, but they still work loose over several months of heating and cooling cycles.

yea id buy a new manifold and put a gasket on the thing

I got a new manifold about a year ago and had it machined the other day. It has a gasket on now. But i still have problems. I just would like to fix her for good.thanks

If the manifold has been surfaced, maybe the exhaust flange on the head should be as well. If both surfaces are good, and you use a gasket, there should be no leaks. Assumeing, of course that it has no air pump holes or they have been plugged.

well my guess is the head is pretty badly warped. put a small level on it and see if it is plumb
