Exhaust Question - arvinode?

I'm researching exhaust for my 200. What is everyone running? Is the Classic Inlines Header the best way to go? My local Mustang Shop has warned me that some of these I6 Headers end up sounding like a boat motor.

Once I pick a header, I was planning on buying the R-model exhaust from NPD that sells for $150, and having the muffler shop route the pipes.

Is the Arvinode systems from CI that much better?

The C.I. Header is a great part at a good price. I will have to disagree with your local Mustang shop any header that you use will have almost no effect on the sound ie sounding like a boat motor. The sound is going to depend on the type system you use after the header. I.E. a single or set of duels, size of the pipe, the muffler type that you pick, and were you place the mufflers in the chassis. The Arvinode system has a great aggressive sound thats all its own. You should search through the old posts for sound clips (there are lots of good ones) it might be of help in picking out the system parts that will give you that unique and personal sound that your looking for. Good luck

You can ask mustang-geezer on the arvinode system.
About 8 years ago there was a member from georgia with a comet that used 2 borla mufflers & his system was very close to a V-8 exhaust sound.
He had sound clips & it sounded fantastic.
Just remember the borla's are pricy but the sound was super. Borla pro XLS series.
I believe his handle was the okefanokee comet??????

You are correct as to the Borla mufflers - they sound great. Although I've not seen them recently, SpinTech mufflers also sound great on an inline six. I believe there are sound clips (Youtube???) of MG using the arvinode system. Found it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ1zZDpABNs

You don't need any special fabrication for the exhaust pipe out the back. You will only need a transition piece from the header outlet to the exhaust/muffler pipe.

The standard I6 pipe system has a transverse mounted muffler up in the rear axle tunnel. Inlet and outlet are on the same end of the muffler. Just use a standard V8 2" exhaust pipe with the hump that passes over the top of the rear axle. It runs straight back from the exhaust header to the rear without turns.

I'm using a Flowmaster 40. It has a nice beefy sound and a bark when you accelerate. Some guys say it drones inside the car. I haven't heard it. It does drone above 80 mph. The interior noise dropped quite a bit when I added a 6" turn-down extension tip that put the outlet farther back than the rear bumper.

I bought the 2" SS Impostor kit from Classic Inlines. Very happy with it and it sounds great. I can,t wait to hear it with the alum head and bigger cam. It already sounded like a V8
