FE High Torque Starter in 200 C4 - Got one?

Hi all,

I gather from reading other posts that starters for the FE should work with our 200's w/ C4's. However, I'm not clear if this is a hypothetical application or if some of you have actually done this and found it to work.

Catalogs such as NPD list the same replacement starter for the 200 as the FE's (390, 428, etc.). However, the two High Torque starter replacments for the FE's are not cross listed for the 200's. I'm trying to figure out if there's a fitment reason for this, or the usual disregard for the performance desires of I6-ers.

Please, if you actually have used a high torque FE starter in your 200/C4, can you clarify matters?

thanks,

I'm using a CVR gear drive starter. It was listed for a small block with a 3 spd, but there are really ony two versons of this starter - a short nose and a long nose. The same with the FE starter.

if you have a manual transmission, you probably need the short nose starter. (CVR 5056).

If you have an automatic, you probably need the long nose. (CVR 5055)

And to add to Jack's comments, I've compared the automatic versions of the FE and the six starter and they're the same.

The only problem on some FE starters is the location of the power terminal. For example, on the Powermaster FE starter the terminal is on the right side of the starter instead of the left and it hits the block.

Okay, well I've orded a plain case super torque starter from NPD for the FE motors. Model number 11002-6B. Guy at NPD says they're built to meet the specs of the originals and that the terminals would be in the same location (the back, I presume).

I'll let you all know how it works out.
