Hi Guys
from my first post it looks like i have a 81 fairmont 200ci. I have trawled through the forum for the last week going way back about 60 pages. (thats a lot of reading) 1 question that reapears regular is the duraspark. i have saved, read and re read these topics to avoid posting for help on a topic thats covered. I live in the UK and plan on coming out to the states next feduary, so i'm using autozones webb site for priceing parts i may need, the dizzie they list for a 81 fairmont looks like a duraspark (Part Number: 30-2690) is this so?

if it is i take it it was an option at the time as mine has a normal points dizzie so i gather this is a bolt on swap along with the coil and other bits i need. secondly i need a new carb. the tag on mine reads motorcraft EOBE CA 1A16, but again autozone list a reman holly 1946 part number 64-3298. will this work ok with the duraspark?

also there seems to be a lot of extra pipe work and breathers, i'm guessing that the ca on the carb tag might mean california and so its all the smog stuff they use? but thats just a guess.

HI
The EO in this number (EOBE) indecates that the carb is off of an 1980 motor or a year after like your 81.... date codes go like this for Ford
C= 60's
D= 70's
E= 80's
folowed by the specific year such as EO = 80 an E1 would = 81 and so forth.

Looks like that thing has been sitting somewhere damp for a while. I bought two used motors that looked better than that that both went direct to the scrap pile because they had so much water in them. I would plan on at the very least getting all the sheet metal off for a good look at things before I tried to do much with that.

I usually use around 1978 for parts. Much earlier there were things like the DS1 and much later they got into more funky stuff and the feedback systems.

Hi Fordconvert
it has been sitting a while but fortunatly in the dry. it still turns over OK. trouble is being in the UK you have to work with what you have. before buying any parts i plan to pull it down for inspection to see if it is useable. if not im kind of stuck, i have a 250 in the truck at the moment but need to keep it running while i build a new motor, if the 200 is shot it will probably be easier to get hold of a 289/302 here in the UK
