1960 to mid year 1969 were small round logs.

This pix is a comparision of the hex log and the round log.

There were Offy tri-carb adapters made for the '60 to early '69 round logs and for late '69 to '78 FLAT-TOPS. There were no Offy tri-carb adapters made for the hex logs that I know of.

I think the only reason for picking one over the other is because of what you plan to do.

I think it is easier to mill off the carb mounting pad and install a two barrel on a flat-top. Like this:

If you look carefully, you can see a modified hex log in the background. It needed the shoulder welded up to have a gasket surface. The flat-top didn't need that extra expense.

The valves and the combustion chamber sizes are the same in both.
